JThe connection between structural parts on Land Rover vehicles are made either via a welding process or a riveting process. Riveting is mostly unfamiliar to the average vehicle owner. The process referred to as riveting encompasses a few different types of rivets. For simplicity sake there are two main different types, one is blind riveting which means access for installing the rivet is only from one side. This requires a hole through the two or more panels being joined together.

 

The second main type of riveting once again for simplicity sake is referred to as "self piercing" or by its acronym "S.P.R." which is only possible if the technician making the certified repairs has access to both side of the area that will be clinched and therefore riveted. This process does not require a predrilled hole. This SPR process is well illustrated below.
